No life is without it’s ups and downs.
Every career, every relationship (romantic, family, friends, any kind), just every avenue of life is filled with ups and downs. Highs and lows.
There’s no escaping it.
But the thing is we don’t need to escape it.
With need to live through it.
I recall how the other day, a friend of mine told me- and I’m paraphrasing -“Some days I love my husband, some days I don’t.” But they have a wonderful long marriage nonetheless. And this basically covers every successful relationship there is in spite of what kind. You can’t interact with another person without at least one disagreement, one argument, maybe a fight. It’s impossible.
Or it’s how almost every career person I know complains about their job some days, handed tasks they’d rather abandon for Hawaii or Puerto Rico or Kerala. But they keep at it anyway.
Or how every person I know who plays sports sometimes wins and sometimes loses but must manage to stay on top nonetheless. Even if not with their scores and ratings, with their hopes and dreams.
We live in a world and a time where and when it’s so easy to give up. To decide “Fuck it, I’m done”, to give up on our dreams, our hopes, our loved ones, our ambitions, our desires… To decide that we’re useless and that life is worthless. Every step feels like it’s leading us in circles. Every moment feels like it’s just any other.
But there’s so much more beyond that.
If an airplane decided midway that it was tired of all the ups and downs and needed a break and wanted to give up, that’s when the real damage would be done. That’s when it all comes crashing and burning down.
Yes, life isn’t easy. But for every down, there is an up. What is it they say about rock bottom? The only way you can go is up. So what is there to lose by trying?
By fighting through hardships, grief, pain. By fighting through all the breakups and broken friendships. By fighting through all the fights and screaming matches. By fighting through all the lay offs and lost opportunities. By fighting through every moment that feels like the end, because it is not the end.
It is never the end.
And the only way to know is to keep going.
