Can You Hurry Love? Answered.

At 3:something A.M. last night, I posed a question in “Can You Hurry Love? | Painting in Progress: Black Canvas & Oil Paint #1“.

Before I jump into my own answer to that question, I want to note a slight lyric variation between MaKenzie Thomas’s version of “You Can’t Hurry Love” and the original song by The Supremes. Here’s the difference:

I do NOT own or intend any copyright infringement upon the lyrics in the image. Obviously they are from the respective versions of the song. I do NOT own or intend any copyright infringement upon the image that says “The Supremes”. I screenshotted a slide in a YouTube video of their version of the song and modified it. I do NOT own or intend any copyright infringement upon the part of the image with MaKenzie in it. I pulled an image from Google of the cover image for her version of the song.

The original version was released in 1966 and MaKenzie’s was released in 2021. So, if I had to guess, I’d guess one potential reason she kicked the “mama” part of the song was because she wanted to the song to be more accessible to today’s audiences, a generation that’s more self-sufficient and less reliant on parental advice (for better or worse, that’s just how we are), and a generation in which not everyone has a “mama” and might instead have two “papa”s. Who the “she” in MaKenzie’s version is, however, is a separate mystery.

So, now, the main purpose of this post: my answer to “Can You Hurry Love?”:

Well, that’s it for now, but look out for a sequel to this post (“Can You Hurry Relationships?”) which will expand upon the sentiments I expressed in the video. I’ll add the link here once I publish it.
