Before It Begins (Poem)

How easy it is to watch everything crashing and burning before it even begins.

It’s never on purpose.

One small thing, an unreturned call or message, feeling like you’re being ignored, the possibility that it’s on purpose, the coincidence of everyone falling off the face of the earth at the same time, the rain falling on a day you thought would be sunny, the sun shining at an awkward angle illuminating the world in all the wrong places, that empty feeling somewhere inside yelling at you to just cry, to mourn and grieve a good that hasn’t happened yet, hasn’t gone yet, but probably will rather quickly. It hurts a little. For this to be the first feeling you feel in the morning.

How difficult it is to watch the world burning and knowing you can’t stop it because it hasn’t begun.
