***Narrative poem? Epistolary poem? Whatever — it’s a poem!
Do they really?
Do my eyes really talk to you?
What secrets do they share with you?
Dostoyevsky says that there are some secrets we only tell the people closest to us, some we only tell ourselves, and some we do not even tell ourselves. But apparently I have no secrets. Apparently my eyes tell you everything.
How did you know?
I was so careful.
I surmised a thousand reasons you might have found out but this was not one of them.
Psychic.
My heart is currently unstable. So are my nerves. I’m shivering though it’s warm. It could be the sleep deprivation though, hunger, mild dehydration, the coffee I just downed an three hours ago. I don’t get nervous easily. Fearful anxiety? Sure. I become afraid of things like loneliness, rejection, loss of a person… But this? This nervousness is not normal.
And yet, I feel overwhelmed with… what is it? That thing that you feel when you find the one person that seems to understand you more than you understand yourself in any given moment.
Meeting this person is rare.
Happens a few times in a lifetime.
I think I’ve had it happen twice before.
Everyone else is still trying to figure me out.
My own parents, my brother, some of my closest friends who I’ve known for years have yet to completely figure me out. How have you?
Mere aakhein tujhse baat hai, na?
Lekin, mere dil?
I suppose the eyes are the way to the heart?
Who knows…
But I for one am completely awestruck, drowning in unrequited desire, reveling in the innocent and sweet love of yours.
To want is not a crime, is it? No. So long as I do not try to take what is not mine, what is no one’s to begin with. You are not even yours to give. I am not mine to give.
Lekin mere aakhein tujhse baat hai, na?
Evariki thelusu. Em avthundho…
Sometimes, labels are the least of it.
Sometimes, when a heart calls out to another heart, things just make sense without our help.
If my eyes talk to you, let them speak, I suppose. Reveal all my secrets before I have the chance to. Maybe one day, your eyes will talk to me too.
