I was walking home from the park. It was a few minutes before 9 P.M. and there weren’t many people around but I knew these roads and the way blindfolded.
I had already seen him walking toward me before he caught my attention with an “excuse me” and a “hello”. I squinted. Didn’t have my glasses on. Did I know him?
He wondered if he knew me. Said I looked familiar and asked if I went to the same college as him. The one everyone from my old high school goes to. I didn’t. It was the first college I decided not to apply to but he didn’t need to know that. I shook my head, said sorry, no, and kept walking. I was already running late.
He said, “Please don’t take it the wrong way, but you’re really pretty”. I laughed. I had never been so directly hit on (in person). Let me note: it’s terribly sad that telling a woman she’s pretty has to be taken the wrong way these days.
I thanked him.
And waved and walked away, saying I had a boyfriend. He laughed as well: “Oh.” Hands up. And walked away too. In another time, I would’ve said it felt like the beginning to Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna‘s sequel. Well, maybe it is the beginning. That’s all it’ll be.
Because I do have a boyfriend. For once, I’m not just making it up to get some rando who’s into me that I don’t like off my back. Cue Victoria Justice and Elizabeth Gillies’s “Take a Hint” from Victorious:

I have a boyfriend who I’m gonna marry in ten years in winter in the States.

The lyrics come from Swift’s song “Paper Rings”.
I got the photo of Swift from Google. Traced it to this Elle.com article.
Who I’m looking forward to seeing in two-ish months. Can’t believe one’s already passed.
But who was that guy?
I caught a name. We spoke long enough to exchange names. I got just enough a good look at his face to recognize him if I saw him again. And I think he lives in the housing complex right next to mine but I could be wrong.
I spent a good hour online yesterday trying to find out.
I got a few prospective matches but I could be wrong.
Everyone’s gonna get on my ass, asking, “Why are you trying to find him if you have a boyfriend and are not interested on cheating on said boyfriend?”
Simple.
Same reason I watch Criminal Minds, NCIS, and Castle. Or for that matter, How I Met Your Mother.

Got them all from Google. Here are the websites I traced the images to:

I like a good mystery.
And – even if you call it nosy – I’m curious.
If I weren’t afraid of getting shot at, I’d have become a private investigator. Instead, I’m left to write mysteries. And investigate non-criminal ones. What can I say? I love to play detective.
At the most, I’ll figure out more than just his name and maybe I’ll make a new friend. At the very least, it’ll be inspiration for a couple of novels and something to pass the time this summer.
So, what do I call him?
Mystery Man 2.0? Nah… lacks innovation.
Stranger in the Night? Too overdone.
I know…. I’ll call him:
