The Season of Free Will

That’s a mood.

One I feel almost every summer.

It’s not an actual state of doing but rather feeling. I’ve done plenty. Reading, writing, Netflix-ing, hanging out with friends and my parents’ friends.

I legit just went to NYC yesterday with one of my best friends, had a phone call with another on Friday, went on a date with my boyfriend a few weeks ago, and so on.

And yet there’s this feeling like everything is still.

But that’s the best part.

Because none of this is obligatory. I haven’t signed any contract saying “I will keep in touch with my friends” or “I will drag my boyfriend to Chipotle” or “I will read Book Lovers” or “I will watch NCIS“.

Summer is the season of free will. The capability to say “no” never felt so good. During the school year, I can’t always choose what books I want to read or which people I want to see. I sure as hell can’t decide which homework I will and won’t do. I mean, I could, but only at the expense of my G.P.A. which I would prefer to remain at a near 4.0 by the time I graduate.

Summer is one long “I’ll only do it if I feel like it and if I don’t, oh well”.

It’s a chance to relax.

Now, taking that chance is a choice. One we each have to make for ourselves.

But more on that next time on MML.

Right now, I gotta drink some tea, get my legs massaged, and fall asleep reading John Lescroat’s Treasure Hunt.
