It’s impossible that every moment has a pre-set purpose. I don’t believe that everything happens for a reason. I don’t believe in fate. But I do believe in making the most of every given situation and remaining optimistic in the face of life’s idiocy. While I don’t believe that life goes forward with a given purpose, I do believe in looking back and thinking I’m glad it happened this way. I’m glad I lived this way.
Fate may not exist.
But freedom to live life to the fullest does.
So… yeah, my love life got all shot to hell a couple of weeks ago and for about five seconds I was sure it was all for nothing. But then, I got up. I decided to look forward, to move forward. And tonight, I’m celebrating Valentine’s Day with another for the first time in a long time.
Celebrating a relationship born not only from blind or indifferent acceptance but from a deep uncanny understanding.
And sure, the timing’s something. And if it all goes to hell, we both lose an amazing person, an amazing friend, a best friend. But we have something that everyone else seemed to lack.
Hope.
Sure, we’ve got our anxieties. The “what if”s of tomorrow are constantly roaming our minds. But we allow ourselves to hope, to dream, to look forward to the sun rising after every gentle setting on the shore.
Sure, it could all get shot to hell again. Or maybe, just maybe, today’s happiness will turn into tomorrow’s.
