Won’t Catch Up

Nanna said I’m on the way to publishing my travels in a collection. Samhi’s Travels. Like Gulliver‘s Travels and Sinbad the Sailor. I laughed but he’s not wrong.

Why haven’t I already?

My Cape May Whale Watching Expedition, my Calgary Trip, my Return to Erie, and so much more… that I promised myself (and probably others) that I would write about and then didn’t?

For that matter, there’s so much I promised myself I’d write that I haven’t. The food/resteraunt reviews, the new recipes, the new relationship failures and dating mishaps, the rekindling of old affections for lovers long gone, the reliving of traumas and overcoming them too, and the realization that I’m not nearly as traumatized as people want to believe.

It’s not for a lack of ideas either.

The opposite.

We’ve talked about writer’s block.

Way back when… when I published “The 3 Types of Writer’s Block | My Recipe to MML” on MML.

I said there were three types.

Now, I’m proposing that there is a Block #4: when you have so many things you want to write down that you feel like you could never catch up so your system shuts down and you simply don’t bother.

Well… the truth is you’re never ever going to catch up. To everything you want to write, to say. Everything you want to do in life.

But it shouldn’t be a depressing thing.

The exact opposite.

It should be a reminder that the world is so full of life and things and beauty and adventure and excitement. Never being able to catch up to all of it the best state of living because it means you’ll never be bored.

I’d rather be overwhelmed than bored.

And the worst thing you can do is decide to stop moving simply because you can’t catch up. Catching up shouldn’t be the goal. Experiencing as much as humanly possible should be the goal. At the same time, you also need not feel dissappointed at missed opportunity because while you’re worrying about all that you can’t or didn’t do, you’re probably missing out on another experience you are currently in.

Be present.

Even while reliving the past and imagining the future, be present.

Right now (12:50 P.M. EST), right here (at Aalok International in Waltham, MA, US), I’m making a promise to myself that I’m not going to stop writing just because I’ll never be able to write everything.
