Dance to Your Own Beat | Don’t Need Blue Tips

***I’ve given up saying “This is not a love letter” at the end of ’em all, because essentially in some way or another they all are some kind of love letter. Not necessarily a romantic one. And this one it probably like… What? 5% romantic?… that’s all. But it is a love letter. It will always be a love letter.

Dear Dancing King,

And I usually don’t like “dear” but it sounded apt this time…. Actually, never mind, scratch that. Let me start again.

What’s up, Dancing King?

I decided not to dye the tips of my hair blue after all.

You told me this morning that people don’t change. I found it funny – not in an I don’t take you seriously way but – because three days ago, I was telling another friend of mine that people always change.

Change is the only constant.

Yet, I agree with you.

Because though we change what we are, who we are stays the same.

So then why hate one person one day and love them the next? Or why would they feel this way about us? If we are the same?

Circumstance.

It’s all about circumstance.

Circumstance is why I never told you how I felt until I realized I still felt the same even after I felt a distance and it grew lesser.

Circumstance is why we keep getting our hearts broken by the world and so does the rest of the world.

Circumstance is why people leave.

Circumstance is why they stay.

Circumstance is… do I continue? It’s everything.

It’s what led to me realizing I fell a little for you along the way. Because whether you realize it or not, once in a while, there’s a light that shines in your eyes even you believe your smile is for the world so they don’t worry about you.

Because you move the beat of your own drum, your own heart and that takes courage whether you believe it or not.

Because even saying that you don’t care about the people that hurt you and that you don’t want to spend time with people only to get hurt, you stilll give me your time when I ask because whether you believe it or not, who you are hasn’t changed.

And that’s okay.

Because you’re pretty spectacular in spite of how annoyed you get at me now and then and make it evident even if you try really hard not to or vice versa. And so am I. And so’s 99% of the world. That’s what my dad says and I believe it. Most of the world’s people are amazing. Just a few aren’t. But just because there’s one tiny mark on an otherwise beautiful dress, doesn’t mean it has to be shoved to the back of a closet never to be seen again.

So it’s okay that people don’t change.

Because it means that 99% of the world gets to remain beautiful, innocent, happy, kind, amazing. Or at the very least, good.

And I don’t know how the world spun in the last twenty-four hours, but even if you can’t be, I’ll be an optimist enough for both of us, for all of us, for everyone. Because despite what I am and what I do, I still have people like you in my life who accept me for who I am.

And that is why I don’t need to or want to color my hair.

Also, “Drag Me Down” by 1D anyone? Not the entire song, but definitely:

Update the next morning:

This was the first that resonated with me this morning…
