Zindagi Aa Raha Hoon Main

I remembered why I fell for you a little more today.

My friend played this song in her car the other day while driving me back to my apartment after our last class. And the tune felt… familiar?

Simoultaneously, for the past couple of months, there’s been this beat in my head that I couldn’t quite place. I knew the music, I knew how I dance to it. I knew how it made my heart beat and put a smile on my face. But I forgot the lyrics.

And then this morning, I played the song and remembered you dancing, smiling, running your fingers through your hair and it clicked.

One and the same.

The song I knew now.

The song I was trying to remember.

In ten years, I’ll say this is our song.

When you first told me to listen to this song, I played it once, then I played it twice, and I played it on repeat all night and danced around my apartment while we made a promise to have a competition for procrastinating one day and you taught me Japanese.

And we had a good time talking.

Conversation.

Maybe that’s my circumstance.

Someone to talk to, someone to connect with, through laughter, through music, through dance.

Someone with whom I can be happy with.

Not someone to make me happy. No one can make anyone happy. And I can’t make anyone happy. We don’t control each other’s emotions. But someone to be happy with. To spend time with. To live.

Because isn’t that the point?

To embrace life with open arms?

And I felt that energy in you, the you I knew then, the you I’ve begun to know as of late. I’ll admit I’m not so sure about the in between but not giving a damn anymore about the ones who hurt you is a good look on you.

And it seemed apt that this is the song that will remind me of you…

Translation:
“I am coming
Life, I am coming
Come, be friends with me
Life, I am coming.”
I do NOT own the lyrics. Credit goes to Manoj Muntashir (lyricist), Atif Aslam (singer), Armaal Malik (composer), Bhushan Kumar (producer), and the T-Series Label. The song was inspired by Tiger Shroff.

Actually, maybe that’s what I’ve been missing in this novel I’m working on. I’ve been so focused on trying to recap my life, the past, the conflict. What if instead, I take it for what it is, life. I’m writing a life. And I just have to be open to welcoming all that it brings with it.
